Magandeep Singh wants the same thing every man wants - comfortable loungewear for men. That's it. Here’s his take on what ticks off all his style boxes. What’s even better? You can find everything he talks about at XYXX. Here's his take:
“The word ‘manifest’ truly vexes me, maybe even mildly annoys me. I’d hate to think that all this time I spent hustling the last few decades could have been spent simply sitting back and imagining having what I want and eventually, to quote every GenZ out there, “The universe would have conspired to bring it to me or make it happen.” Now I may not be all on board with that kind of positivity, but I will allow myself to believe that what we think and do throughout the day will find its way to influence our dreams. Even the way we retire from a long day, be it - a gentle shower, listening to soft music, or wearing easy clothing – it all makes a difference to the quality of our overnight recovery and rejuvenation.
It's why I much prefer airlines that hand out night suits on their long-haul red-eye flights; it definitely beats having to retire in jeans and button-downs no matter how flat and cushy the bed may seem to be.
So whether at home or 37,000ft up in the air, night-time attire matters, almost as much, if not marginally more, than daytime garbs. One can sit at a work desk or in a car even with mildly uncomfortable clothing, but one certainly can’t compromise on what they wear to bed – it has to have certain non-negotiable features. Since nobody asked but everyone pondered, let me tell you what they are.
1. Fit:
I like my shirts and suits bespoke and fitted but I expect the exact opposite of the clothes I lounge about in at home or retire to bed at night in. They have to be loose and airy – not baggy and oversized – roomy enough to allow for unrestricted movement like XYXX’s tank tops and lounge pants.
2. Fabric:
I am never one for sequins or shiny fabrics as daywear so it’s out of the question for the night-time. Give me natural fabrics, stuff that will let air pass and wick sweat. Luckily, I found XYXX, their menswear is thoughtfully made of naturally sourced fabrics making it perfect for day-to-night wear.
3. Feel:
Combed fabrics with soft finishes are the best way to complement my 400-thread count Egyptian cotton bed sheets. Much like XYXX’s light and airy boxer shorts.
4. Functional:
Loose fits are fine but the clothes still need to fit and allow for functioning around the house and my personal favourites are XYXX’s lounge pants and boxer shorts. If only I had a penny for every time I have had to change light bulbs or fix basic stuff around the house in the morning even before my shower, why, I’d have a pocket full of change in my very functional night gear.
5. Fashionable:
Sure, it’s clothes for bedtime but one assumes they will be worn in the course of the evening when one may still end up receiving company or else stepping out briefly for stocking essentials. In such cases, the clothes should have a visual aesthetic that doesn’t get one turned away from the supermarket for fear of looking like a shady shoplifting type, or too inappropriately dressed for public spaces. The outfit I have in mind? A simple crewneck tee styled with pyjama pants should do the trick.
So, to sum up, comfy inside, casual-sharp outside, that’s the mantra for ideal sleepwear.”
