Over the past years, the basic jogger pant has taken the fashion world by storm and has become so much more than a piece of activewear. Let’s look at this trend. These days, joggers can be dressed up, dressed down, and in most cases, pull your entire look together!
Joggers were originally designed to wear while working out, but with their unmatched comfort and structured fit, the mainstream caught on in no time.Their all-round versatility is what makes them the ‘wear all’ and ‘do all’ of men’s clothing. Not only is this wardrobe essential perfect for a morning at the gym, but also for a day of travel, work from home or even tastefully styled for a public outing. So if you're not in the mood to put on a pair of ‘real pants’, it's about time you go grab a pair of joggers.
How to style joggers
Even though joggers can be paired with almost anything in your wardrobe, styling them for first timers can be tricky. The safest way to start would be with a well-fitted hoodie and a pair of sneakers, there’s no way you can go wrong with this! Not only will you feel stylish, but also well within your comfort zone. This is personally what I love to do, I love hoodies or zip-down jumpers with my joggers.
If you're aiming for a breezy yet sophisticated look, another classic but trendy combination would be to pair your joggers with a statement denim jacket. It’s the perfect neutral palette! A few other casual ways to style this essential would be with a crewneck sweatshirt, a henley t-shirt or the classic all black look. On the other hand, if you’re looking to style them for a fancy outing, you could try pairing your joggers with a simple button-up shirt, a stylish blazer or of course, dress it up with a snazzy pair of sneakers. You can even try playing around with a couple of different styles such as cargo joggersfor a casual work day, denim joggers for a quick coffee run or jersey joggersfor a morning workout. Some other styles you could experiment with are fleece, cotton or even leather joggers. One tip I will give, for sure, is to pick the right pair of shoes. Joggers and flip flops or slides don’t go together. Opt for a nice pair of sneakers that shoes just a right bit of pop-coloured sock, for that extra fun.
The rise of athleisure
By balancing comfort, style and functionality, the joggers trend is here to stay. In fact, joggers
are the most versatile piece of casual clothing for men. They are one of the very few garments that can easily transition from a work from home fit to workout clothes to casual outfits. The perfect pair of joggers would be soft, stretchy, smooth and breathable.
Over the past few years, the fashion industry has seen a massive rise in athleisure, and with activewear brands flourishing more than ever before, even luxury brands such as Chanel and Dior are tapping into the market by launching their own athleisure lines, thus maximising their market opportunities. With almost the entire world working from home during the pandemic, the sale of joggers, hoodies and t-shirts shot up like never before. And it does not just stop here, athleisure is expanding way beyond activewear, right from gym bags to sunglasses and sports watches. A few other athleisure staples could include: sweaters - they can be paired with almost anything & everything, bomber jackets - they never fail to give your outfit that extra edge, sneakers - a casual wardrobe essential that gives your outfit a smart finish. Apart from just being a fashion statement, athleisure is also the answer to many clothing obstacles that people have faced for years by providing multi-functionality clothing and we can’t wait to see how it will continue to shape the fashion industry in the years to come.
