The Best Meetings Happen in Pyjamas

During the lockdown, I got a PhD.

Not a real one, of course. I have neither the patience nor the academic ambition for that. Mine was in the field of horizontal productivity. My thesis project was a portable projector and about three weeks of engineering that ended with me having mounted the projector directly above my bed at the exact angle where I could lie completely flat and still read a spreadsheet.

I worked from there. I gamed from there. I watched all of Game of Thrones on it from there. Movement, I had concluded, was an overrated concept invented by the fitness industry.

That was then.

I'm a grown man now. With grown-man responsibilities and something called a Google Calendar with things on it that aren't optional. People who expect me to show up, be present, and give the impression that I didn't spend the previous four hours completely horizontal.

The trouble is, I wrote that PhD. I know what I know. And what I know is that the best version of me needs the right pants to function properly.

So when I tell you the XYXX Cotton Chambray Pyjamas changed something for me, I need you to listen carefully to what I'm about to say.

The problem wasn't comfort. I had comfort. The problem was that comfort looked a certain way, faded, shapeless, and something people wouldn't be seen around you in. The young kids call it ugly.

The cotton chambray in these pyjamas is cut from 125 GSM pure cotton, plain-weave, with just enough structure that they read like trousers in a dimly lit room, on a camera, at a reasonable distance. They breathe like cotton, too, in this weather. They have the quiet aesthetic of something you wore on purpose, and it makes you look like someone with great taste.

Which means I can now work from my couch, for hours, and then leave the house in the same pair of trousers, and nobody is the wiser. My friends get to see me. I get to go out. Everyone's happy. I haven't changed anything.

This is the loophole I've been waiting for since the projector days.

The Full Picture

If you're going to commit to this lifestyle with any dignity, the pyjamas need company.

Start with the XYXX Supima Cotton T-shirt. Supima cotton is softer than regular cotton — longer fibres, less pilling, more of that broken-in feeling from the first wear. It sits against your skin all day without bunching, riding up, or doing anything that makes you aware it exists. Which is exactly the brief when you're already asking your bottom half to carry the outfit. The Moss Brown colourway is the kind of neutral that looks considered without trying, and pairs with the Taupe Grey pyjamas in a way that reads as if you planned it. You didn't have to. That's the point.

Then, when you eventually have to leave the house, and you will, occasionally, the Anti-Tan Parka Jacket goes over the top. UPF 50+ sun protection, because the sun has opinions and you shouldn't have to share them. It folds into its own detachable pouch, which means it lives in your bag until you need it and disappears when you don't. The polyester shell is light enough that wearing it feels like a suggestion rather than a commitment. Estate Blue over Ash Grey over Sage Green, this is a full outfit, assembled entirely from things you'd wear on a slow Tuesday at home, and it looks like you left the house on purpose.

You did. Eventually. But the morning was yours

FAQs

Do the Pyjamas for Men Actually Work for the Office?

Going to the office in these might be a bit of a stretch, but they work perfectly for a run to the shops or an evening meeting with friends and family.

Aren't Pyjamas Just for Sleeping?

They used to be. The Cotton Chambray Lounge Pyjamas changed the brief. Plain-weave cotton chambray was built for daytime — it has the weight and drape for it. Sleeping is just a bonus.

What's the Difference Between These and Regular Pyjamas?

Regular pyjamas look like you gave up. These look like you made a considered choice. The 125 GSM chambray fabric gives them shape. The cut gives them proportion. The result is something you can wear at 8 am on a call, 2 pm at a café, and midnight on the couch without changing once.

Can I Actually Wear These Outside?

Yes. That's the whole point. Pair them with the Supima tee and the Ozone Parka, and you have a full outfit. No one is clocking the waistband.

How Do I Care for These?

Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Cotton chambray softens with every wash, which means they actually get better. You're welcome.
